Advancing Educational Equity: Reparations and Restorative Justice in K-12 Education and Beyond

I’m excited to share that I’m presenting at this year’s EdUprising Conference in partnership with @FutureFocusedEducation. I hope you’ll join me for my presentation on March 7, 2025.

Topic: Advancing Educational Equity: Reparations and Restorative Justice in K-12 Education and Beyond

This workshop explores the transformative intersection of reparations and restorative justice in reshaping K-12 education and addressing systemic inequities. Centered on the Black Education Act, participants will examine its role as a groundbreaking model of equity-driven reform. The session will unpack how reparations-focused policies can repair historical harm and how restorative justice practices can foster inclusive, supportive environments in education and beyond. By integrating these two frameworks, the workshop offers actionable strategies for dismantling inequities, promoting culturally responsive curriculums, and implementing restorative disciplinary systems. Attendees will leave equipped with practical tools to advance justice in their communities and reimagine education systems as reparative and empowering spaces for all.

This interactive workshop will utilize group activities to dissect and address inequities in schools. Participants will collaborate to develop actionable solutions using the framework of the Black Education Act. The session will feature a dynamic presentation on how education has historically been weaponized against Black and Brown communities, setting the stage for in-depth discussions. Guided exercises will focus on designing culturally responsive restorative justice practices tailored to community needs. By combining collaborative problem-solving with a presentation of historical and systemic contexts, this workshop empowers attendees to create equitable and inclusive educational environments.
