Albuquerque, NM – In a profound call to action against systemic racism and police brutality, Black activists from Albuquerque, alongside City Councilor Nichole Rogers, will host “A National Day of Mourning – Rebuking Injustice for Sonya Massey” at Robinson Park on July 27, 2024. The event will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., serving as a unified stand against the tragic death of Sonya Massey and others who have suffered similar fates. Albuquerque is among a growing list of cities nationwide holding such commemoration events.

This rally seeks to honor the memory of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman whose life was unjustly taken, and to demand comprehensive reforms in policing and justice for all. We will gather to mourn, remember, and rally for the changes needed to prevent further tragedies.

This National Day of Mourning is a rallying point for our community and the nation to unite in grief and determination. We invite all members of the Albuquerque community and beyond to join us at Robinson Park. Bring your signs, your voices, and your resolve to demand justice and honor the memory of Sonya Massey.

Councilor Rogers – “This is a time to come together as a community to mourn the
murder of another member of the Black Community at the hands of the law
enforcement and to start the healing process.”

As a part of this national undertaking that Albuquerque will join, activists and community leaders are calling for a renewed fight to strengthen and pass the George Floyd Justice and Policing Act.

The entire community is welcome to take part in this peaceful demonstration.
